Arianna’s Pick: The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave
This story follows a tense relationship with the daughter of a man who quickly learns is NOT who she thought he was. Now disappeared, leaving her to figure out the pieces of his past. A page turner from beginning to end. I could not put this book down. A gripping suspense. Perfect for a summer read. What a puzzle of a book.
Cathy’s Pick: Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I love all TJR’s books, so it was no surprise when this one released in June this year that I needed to skin my paws into it straight away. This book takes place over the course of one unforgettable evening and follows the lives of the famous Riva’s- four siblings who are a source of fascination in Malibu- and all over the world. As the evening unfolds, the party gets out of control, family secrets are revealed, and by morning the mansion will be up in flames. This book will keep you gripped the entire time, you will cry, laugh, and by the end you will have a newfound respect for every character. Probably one of my favourite books so far this year!
Lauren’s Pick: Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Ownes
My only regret about reading this book is that I delayed reading it for so long! While it took a few chapters for the story to pick up, the amount of world building makes up for it. Suspense and questions about the main character of Kya aka Marsh Girl will grow as you make your way through the North Carolina coast with her. I cannot wait to see this book come to life when the movie comes out!
Deb’s Pick: The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
My top Summer read would be The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. A fiction / fantasy that will have you examine your own life. ‘Between life and death there is a library,’ she said. ‘And within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices. Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets?’ Rarely do I read a book & immediately want to read it again. Goodreads top fiction book of 2020 & currently a best seller worldwide.
Becky’s Pick: Beartown by Fredrick Backman
Down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built years ago by the working men who founded this now-failing town. Within that rink is the hope for saving Beartown – their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semi-finals, and they actually have a shot at winning! All the hopes and dreams of this small town now rest on the shoulders of a handful of teenage boys. Emotions and beliefs culminate in a perfect storm, and the semi-final match is the catalyst for a violent act that will leave families traumatized and a town in turmoil. The effects travel through all Beartown, leaving no one untouched. Beartown explores the hopes that bring a small community together, the secrets that tear it apart, and the courage it takes for an individual to go against the grain. An important read that you’ll be thinking about for years to come!
