How to Change Over to Warmer Winter Bedding
Be honest: is there anything better than climbing into a warm cozy bed at the end of the day? No. And as the days grow shorter and the temperature dips down, it becomes increasingly important to create a restful sleep environment that keeps you comfortable. So, read on to set yourself up for a snuggly sleep in the colder months. And if there’s anything we don’t answer about how to change over to warmer winter bedding, visit QE Home at Westshore Town Centre and ask the experts!
Start with a fresh foundation
Before layering on your winter bedding, give your mattress and base layers a little attention. Strip off your blankets and sheets, vacuum your mattress for an extra deep clean, and rotate it if needed to help maintain even wear. If you don’t already have one, now is also the perfect time to add a mattress pad or protector for added warmth under your fitted sheet.
Switch to flannel or brushed cotton sheets
Softer, warmer fabrics can make a big difference in your sleep climate over the winter. Flannel sheets are a classic choice for winter bedding because their fibers help to trap warmth while feeling soft against your skin, while brushed cotton or microfiber can provide the same level of warmth without the heavy fabric feel.
Add a layer
Layering is key to winter bedding. Adding a blanket between your sheets and your comforter helps trap heat close to your body without making the bed feel too bulky. Plus, layering means flexibility—you can peel off a layer if the night turns out warmer than expected or add one on extra cold evenings.
Upgrade your duvet or comforter
Your duvet is the heart of your winter bedding. If you’ve been using a lightweight summer duvet, now’s the time to switch to a heavier fill. Down or down-alternative comforters with a higher fill power (around 600–800) provide excellent warmth without adding excessive weight. Remember, in general, the higher the number the thicker the duvet. For those sensitive to allergies, a hypoallergenic down-alternative duvet offers warmth and softness without the feathers.
Don’t forget the pillows
Pillows can make or break your sleep Over time, they lose their shape and support, which can affect both comfort and sleep quality. Switching to new pillows for the colder months can not only provide better support for your neck and shoulders, but can also help maintain a cleaner, healthier sleep environment. Consider choosing pillows with a slightly denser fill for extra support and warmth or opt for materials like memory foam or down that retain heat better in the winter. Just don’t forget cozy pillowcases.
With the right mix of materials and luxurious layers, you can create a bed that feels cozy, warm, and inviting all season long. Sweet dreams!
