Cheering on Team Canada

Cheering on Team Canada

The Winter Olympics are all about athleticism, Canada-pride, and the thrill of competition. And while we’d love to be cheering on Team Canada from the front row, the reality is, most of us will be watching these events from home. Luckily, with a little creativity and a few party planning tips, you can get into the games without ever leaving the comfort of your couch.

Dress the part

Getting into the Olympic spirit starts with dressing the part. Represent Team Canada with official sweaters and tees or simply add a splash of red and white to your wardrobe. And don’t forget the accessories—headbands, hair clips, temporary tattoos, and even stickers are an easy way to show your pride.

Plan the menu

While Olympic athletes typically have a strict diet, avid watchers don’t have the same limits. Stock up on your favourite snacks and drinks ahead of time for a gold-medal feast or plan a Canadiana-themed menu with poutine and Nanaimo bars for a fun (and yummy) way to celebrate.

Upgrade your set up

Big events need a big screen. If you’ve been debating upgrading your TV (or other furniture) now’s the perfect time. Be sure to measure before you head shopping to ensure your new screen fits your space, set your budget, and make a list of features you’re interested in so you can easily compare options and make an informed decision.

Brush up on trivia

In addition to being rich in history and tradition, the Olympics are also full of trivia and impressive records. Turn the games into an intellectual competition with fun facts and quizzes or take a deep-dive into the rules of lesser-known events like the Nordic combined.

Hit the town

Not up for hosting? Not a problem. Westshore is home to several amazing restaurants where you can settle in, split your favourite appies with friends, and watch the game on the big screen. Expecting a group? Make a reservation to avoid the wait.

Celebrating the Winter Olympics is all about connection, Canadiana, and fun. Whether you’re cheering your heart out, discovering new sports, or simply making time to celebrate the occasion with friends, there are countless ways to go for gold during the Olympics—no passport required.
