Mums the Word (of the Day)

Sunday, May 12 is soon upon us.  Maybe you’ve picked up the perfect Mother’s Day card already, but if you still haven’t chosen the “perfect” gift for mom yet, have no fear, we’ve got you covered.  We’ve taken some time to carefully curate a list of gift ideas for any mom, and we hope they help you out!

The Mom Who Reads

If your mom is an avid reader, the options are truly endless for gift ideas.  Take a quick peek at her bookcase or bedside table to determine which genre to go to and then ask the experts at Cole’s for their suggestions.  If mom reads in the bath, add a nice scented candle to your gift.

Pro Tip – I’m a big fan of books that come in a series because they set you up for future gift giving opportunities.  My Mother’s Day go-to every year for a long time has been The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series by Alexander McColl, the series is up to book 19 now and they’re all good (I’ve read them too!).  My mom loves to take these on vacation because they’re fun stories, without requiring too much mental capacity.

The Coffee Drinking Mom

How many times has mom poured herself a cup of coffee in the morning and then been distracted by a million things only to return to a stone-cold disappointment in a mug?

This amazing invention (available at Starbucks) will be the perfect gift.  The Ember temperature control mug allows mom to set her preferred temperature, and the mug will maintain that temperature for about an hour.  It will even remember mom’s preference on the next cup.

Mom can get distracted by a lot of things in an hour, but her coffee (or tea!) will be happily waiting for her when she gets to it.

The Wine Drinking Mom

Here’s your chance to stray from the boring “usual” bottle of red or white for mom, how about something sparkling?  Look for the British Columbia VQA section at the Signature BC Liquor store and see if you can’t find something local for mom to try.  Definitely pop by Fairway Market for a bouquet of flowers to go with the bottle too.

The Fashion Forward Mom

When was the last time that mom went shopping for herself?  Chances are she’s shopped for the kids (or grandkids) a lot, but not herself.  If you don’t want to be in charge of making fashion decisions for her, we suggest picking up a few gift cards from her favourite stores, and wrap them up with a new summer set of pajamas from La Vie en Rose.

The Mom Who Doesn’t Want “Stuff”

Experiential gifts are a fantastic alternative when your mom says she doesn’t need any more “stuff,” or even if you just plain run out of ideas.  Elegance Nails will take good care of mom on your behalf with a manicure and pedicure that will make her feel like the queen that she is.  Or, take mom to dinner and a movie, or grab a coffee to go and go for a walk on the beach or one of our awesome Westshore trails.

She’ll love spending time with you, and at the end of the day that all she really wants anyways.
