Journal Your Way through January

Dear diary, today I’m starting a journal.

The benefits of journaling are impressive—improved communication, boosts in confidence, reduced stress, and even better memory. So, whether you’re putting pen to paper to organize your thoughts, track your habits, or relax and doodle it’s a great way to express yourself and a great outlet to adopt.

What kind of journals are there?

Gone are the days of journals full of blank pages of single lined paper. Whatever your preference, style, vibe, and budget there’s a Cole’s journal for that. Try a blank journal for doodles and drawing; a bullet journal if you’re a point form pro; lined pages to write your heart out; or invest in a journal that includes prompts if you’re looking for inspo and want to try something new.

How do I start journaling?

Struggling to get started? You’re not alone. Make your adventures in journaling as successful as possible by creating a routine. Set aside designated time daily—even just a few minutes—and write whatever comes to mind first. Remember you’re writing solely for yourself so don’t worry about showing it to anyone else. Your journal is your space and can serve whatever purpose you need. Still have writers block? Try writing it different spots in the house, on the go, or take a day off and try again tomorrow.

What if I want a digital journal?

Go for it! Journaling isn’t limited to hard-copy writing. Consider using your laptop, tablet, or a smart phone app instead. If you are going old school, don’t forget to try using different coloured pens, stickers, decorative tape, and other embellishments to personalize your journal and make it a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
