Make Earth Day Every Day

April 22 marks Earth Day. But with so much beauty, diversity, and so many species calling it home, Earth deserves more than just one day to be celebrated. Making responsible, sustainable, choices and developing Earth-friendly habits are key to keeping our planet healthy, and of course, green. And it doesn’t have to be difficult.

Go reusable.

One and done? No way. Eliminate as much waste as possible by choosing reusable options whenever you can. Bring your own mug to the coffee shop, refill your own water bottle before you leave the house, and keep a cute reusable tote bag in your car to have handy the next time you stop for groceries. Don’t have reusable goodies ready to go? Visit HomeSense to find cute, practical, reusable containers and gadgets you’ll love to use.

Consider leaving the car at home.

Look for alternative methods of transportation as the weather warms up—hop the bus, ride your bike, or load up the car with your best shopping pals and carpool your way to Westshore.

Fix it if you can.

Have a stain on your shirt you can’t get out? Hole in the sole of your shoes? Damaged clothes and shoes can often by fixed instead of thrown away. Trust an expert like The Quality Cobbler to help you clean and repair your wardrobe staples to avoid having to replace your items and create excess waste.

Learn what goes where.

While many plastics are recyclable it, it’s a sad fact that only a small percentage make it into recycling. Check the numbers on the bottom of your containers to ensure you recycle what you can. And be sure to separate out organic items, too. Always read the labels and think twice before you trash it.

As Dr Seuss said in The Lorax, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” Show the earth some extra care and make your environmental footprint a little lighter this year.
