It’s National Nurses Week. Running from May 9-15, it’s a time we celebrate and honour the amazing men and women working on the frontlines are caring for others when it’s needed most.
In the 1970s, May 12 was designated International Nurses Day. The date, Florence Nightingale’s birthday, was chosen to recognize her as a pioneer in the nursing field. Later in the 1980s, the week containing May 12 was recognized as National Nurses Week, eventually being renamed National Nursing Week to celebrate the profession and discipline as a whole.
While nurses work in a variety of conditions, across countless worksites and facilities, there’s no doubt they are a vital part of every healthcare team and deserve comfortable footwear and uniforms that can keep up on long shifts. If you or someone you know is a nurse, swing by Mark’s or Best Sneakers to see what’s new and give your work wear an upgrade.
We’ve all heard the expression that food is love. Show your love and appreciation with everyone’s favourite dessert—Purdy’s chocolate. Gift the nurse in your life a sweet treat that’s sure to be the perfect pick me up at the end of a long day.
To nurses of all kinds, everywhere, we commend you, we recognize you, we need you, we applaud you, we celebrate you, and most of all, we thank you.
