Love the Skin You’re In

Take a walk down the skincare aisle in Shoppers Drug Mart or visit their beauty boutique—overwhelmed? You’re not alone. There’s a lot happening in the skincare world and with so much variety it can be hard to know where to start. Whether you’re new to it or a veteran pro, it’s important to take an inventory of your routine and products and make adjustments as we head into the fall and winter seasons.

Cleanse the right amount

Clean skin feels great, but did you know it’s possible to over clean your skin and strip it of valuable oils that it needs? Trade soaps for gentle, unscented cleansers and look for products that include extra moisture to prevent the dry, itchy winter-time skin no one likes.

Take a temperature check

A hot shower on a cold day is priceless. But sadly, prolonged hot showers can do more harm than good when it comes to your skin. Intense heat for extended periods can ruin your skin’s natural moisture barrier, meaning your skin will struggle to hold moisture in and absorb it. Instead, keep your shower warm, not hot, and aim for 10-15 minutes—just enough to get all the benefits, without putting your skin at risk of damage, or running up your water bill.

Don’t skip the sunscreen

Believe it or not, your skin still needs an SPF in the fall and winter as particular ultraviolet levels are still present all year long and these are harmful to your skin. If you just can’t get behind a tropical smelling sunscreen during cold weather months, try a moisturizer or tinted beauty balm with an SPF in it that you can easily incorporate into your routine instead.

Consult with a pro

There’s no time like the present to talk to an expert. Treat yourself to a comprehensive (and relaxing) facial or skincare consultation to learn more about your specific skin type, needs, and products that suit your budget and lifestyle.

Keep your skin happy, healthy, and radiant this fall and treat yourself to the perfect products for a glow all year long.
