Get Outside

There’s a reason it’s called beautiful British Columbia—lush coastlines, ocean breezes, snow-capped mountains—hard to beat, right? With so much happening in our own backyard, now is the perfect time to get outside and get moving. Whether you’re kayaking close to shore, testing your balance on a paddle board, or hitting up a new trail, be sure to bring these four essentials along.

Enough water

As the temperature rises, it’s crucial to stay hydrated, especially when you’re outdoors and on the go. Invest in a reusable water bottle, keep it full, and sip often to avoid heat exhaustion.

SPF

Even on a cloudy day, SPF is not optional. Keep a travel size bottle with you or try a sunscreen stick that you can use to easily re-apply throughout the day while playing in the water or perspiring. Double up on sun protection with a light long sleeved tee, a hat, and don’t forget the sunglasses!

Portable phone charger

We understand part of the appeal of getting outdoors is disconnecting from technology, but a portable phone charger is an important item to bring along. Not only will it keep you charged so you can easily capture the moment with fun photos and videos, but it ensures you have a way to reach out in the unlikely event you need emergency assistance.

Comfortable shoes

No matter what you get up to outdoors, it’s no fun with sore feet. A pair of comfortable, proper-fitting shoes is key to a good time. Look for something appropriate for the activities you’ll be doing (Running? Hiking? Beachcombing?) and make sure your shoes don’t rub or leave you susceptible to blisters or hot spots. Ouch.

Happy exploring!
