We All Scream For Ice Cream

From simple and sweet vanilla to a double chocolate cookie dough swirl and everything in between, it’s hard to find a bad time for or flavour of ice cream. But before you make your way to the frozen dessert aisle of the grocery store, give homemade ice cream a try.

 

There’s no shortage of fancy ice cream makers on the market but what if we told you that you didn’t need one to make ice cream right in your own kitchen? In fact, all you need are a few ziplock bags and a handful of ingredients you likely have in the fridge and pantry.

 

Ice Cream in a Bag Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup half and half
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups ice
  • 1/3 cup kosher salt

Method:

  •      In a small resealable bag combine half and half, sugar, and vanilla.
  •      Press the air of out the bag and seal.
  •      In a larger resealable bag combine the ice and salt
  •      Place the smaller bag inside the larger and seal the larger bag
  •      Shake vigorously for 7-10 minutes until your ice cream mixture has hardened
  •      Remove your ice cream from the bag and enjoy with toppings of your choice like sprinkles or chocolate chips

 

For those with a slightly less sweet tooth and a focus on protein, cottage cheese ice cream is another easy alternative you can make in a matter of minutes. This TikTok trend has exploded recently and for good reason—all it takes is 2 ingredients and a blender.

 

Cottage Cheese Ice Cream

Ingredients:

  • 15 ounces whole milk cottage cheese
  • ¼ cup honey

Method:

  •      Combine ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth
  •      Freestyle you own flavours by combining yummy add-ins like peanut butter, frozen berries, banana, or chocolate chips.
  •      Freeze 3-4 hours before serving

 

In a cup, cone, or straight from the container, enjoy your homemade ice cream your way.
