School’s Out, Now What?

School’s out—now what? While summer vacation can mean fun adventures, sunny days outdoors, and travel, it can also mean a rousing chorus of “I’m bored” on a daily basis. Looking for ways to keep your kiddos occupied this summer? Keep reading.

Start a kids book club

We are all for raising kids who read. Leverage that passion all summer long with a kids book club! Get your kiddo and their friends together to pick out a fun read and challenge one another to see who can finish the book first. Or relive your favourite childhood stories together and read along with your little one.

Save your recycling and build an epic fort

Calling all aspiring architects! Gather your recycling and start building. Whether it’s empty Amazon boxes, paper towel rolls, or milk jugs, give your kiddo the space (and recycled supplies) to build a temporary fort then break out the markers and crayons to decorate it accordingly. Or for a fun alternative for older kids, turn it into a challenge to make the tallest structure they can or a suspension bridge that can hold as much weight as possible.

Try water painting

Need a quick and easy way to cool off with youngsters? Bust out the hose and try water painting. Simply find an outdoor area like a deck or driveway where a little water won’t hurt and let your kiddos “paint” with the hose or watering can. Be sure to capture a picture quickly—the sun will erase your little one’s masterpiece in no time.

Host a t-shirt party

Who doesn’t have an old t-shirt stashed in their dresser or closet? Help your tween and teens host a t-shirt party and breathe some new life into an old shirt. Try adding iron-on letters and patches, using bleach and a paint brush to create a custom design, or create a distressed and vintage look by adding a few small rips or holes.

However you’re spending your summer, we wish you a fun and safe break full of good times with great friends and family!
