4 Tips for Sunshine and Summertime Fun

Summer is here. With longer days, warmer temperatures, and school wrapping up for kiddos, it’s the perfect time to explore, create, play, and enjoy the outdoors. Whether you’re headed to the lake, playing in the park, or exploring your own backyard, we’re got tips to make it a fun, safe, and spectacular summer.

Backyard Camping

You don’t have to go far to go camping. Set up a tent in your backyard and let your kids experience the thrill of sleeping under the stars. Or skip the tent entirely and set up an air mattress and sleeping bags for a refreshing evening in the open air. Be sure to keep your s’mores supplies handy and tell spooky stories for a truly authentic experience.

Pro tip: try making s’mores dip in the oven for an easy and mess-free way to enjoy this camping classic without a campfire.

Swimming & Splash Pads

On hot summer days, nothing beats a quick dip in the pool or splash in the sprinkler. Take your little ones to the local pool or lake for a fun day in the water or set up a sprinkler at home for refreshing outdoor fun. Be sure your kiddos have life jackets and goggles to stay safe in the water. And don’t skip the sunscreen, either!

Pro tip: choose brightly coloured bathing suits for your little swimmers for added visibility and water safety.

Gardening

Get growing this summer and introduce your kids to the joys of gardening. Whether it’s planting flowers, vegetables, or just helping to water and weed, gardening can be a relaxing and educational activity. Don’t have a ton of space? Start with a small gardening box you can easily tend to and move around the yard or deck as needed.

Pro tip: check the app store on your smartphone or tablet to learn more about what plants grow well together and set reminders to water them.

Bike Tours

Put the pedal to the meddle this summer and take your kiddos on a fun bike tour. Explore the neighbourhood or hit the trails for a nature ride in the shade. Make sure to bring plenty of water and a pit stop snack, too.

Pro tip: before you go for a ride, bust out the tools and give your bike a tune up with your kids.

With these handy tips and family-friendly activities, you’re sure to have a summer full of fun and memories to last a lifetime.
