Candy Alternatives for Easter

Candy Alternatives for Easter

For many, Easter conjures up images of marshmallow peeps, jellybeans, and those totally addictive mini eggs. While sweets can certainly be part of the celebration, sometimes you want candy alternatives for Easter so their baskets aren’t entirely full of sugar. Whether you want to limit the candy, reduce waste, or simply try something new, there are plenty of fun ways to celebrate and build a thoughtful Easter basket kids and adults can enjoy.

Craft kits and art supplies

Bring creativity to the Easter weekend with craft supplies and DIY kits. Items like colouring books, stickers, and paint-by-numbers are great options or consider sidewalk chalk or playdoh to entertain younger children long after the Easter bunny leaves. Not only are they fun gifts that let imaginations run wild, but they’re screen free with no set up required, too.

Outdoor toys

Easter falls right around the time when the weather warms up, and many folks are eager to spend time outside. Outdoor toys and games are perfect Easter basket additions to help kids get moving outside and burn off some energy. Basic sports equipment like soccer balls or badminton rackets, kites and frisbees, jump ropes, bubble wants, and garden tools are all great gift options that encourage kids of all ages to enjoy time outdoors and take advantage of the spring season.

Books, comics, and magazines

Books and other reading material like magazines and comics are a wonderful alternative to candy and can easily become part of an Easter tradition. Tuck a new storybook into your little one’s basket or opt for a novel or magazine subscription for older tweens and teens.

Easter egg hunt surprises

If your family loves an Easter egg hunt but you’d prefer to skip the candy, there are plenty of other items you can hide inside plastic eggs. Stickers, hair clips, race cars, temporary tattoos and puzzle pieces are all great alternatives that still let kiddos enjoy the excitement of the search.

Experiences instead of things

Sometimes, the best things are not things. Gifting experiences and time together is a meaningful and special alternative to candy and chocolate. Plan a movie date, arrange a picnic, or go out for a delicious Easter brunch as a family (and skip the dishes and clean up, too).

Candy may be a long-standing Easter tradition, but it doesn’t have to be the focus of the holiday. By mixing in creative toys, crafts, books, and experiences, you can create an Easter experience that’s just as exciting and enjoyable. With a little creativity, Easter can be filled with surprises that last well beyond the final chocolate egg.
