Enjoying the Outdoors this Labour Day
Labour Day weekend is the perfect opportunity to slow down and soak up a few more minutes of summer fun—especially outdoors. And with so many great things to do in Langford, there’s something for everyone. So, pack your snacks, grab your friends and family, and gear up to make the most of the long weekend.
Start with a picnic
Let’s be honest, any outdoor activity needs snacks. So why not turn snack time into a full-on picnic? Whether you’re keeping it simple with sandwiches and fresh fruit or feeling fancy with a charcuterie board and pastry, a picnic is the perfect outdoor activity for the whole family. Simply find your spot, spread out, and enjoy good food with good company.
Explore while geocaching
Why take an ordinary nature walk when you can create your own adventure? Geocaching—a form of outdoor treasure hunting—uses GPS coordinates to help you find containers (aka caches) in your local community. It’s a great way to turn familiar trails and parks into a totally new experience using your smartphone or GPS device. Simply follow the clues and see what you can find. Just remember to follow the rules of each cache and leave items as you found them for others to enjoy.
Take a break at the beach
Is the sound of the water calling to you? Us, too. Make time for the beach this long weekend and soak up the salty air while getting your feet wet. Bring a frisbee or hacky sack for added entertainment or try flying a kite if the wind and waves cooperate.
End the day with stargazing
Did you know late summer and early fall can offer great stargazing opportunities? Finish your long weekend with a late-night look to the sky. Consider using a stargazing app to learn more about visible constellations or to track the phases of the moon and don’t forget to make a wish if you spot a shooting star.
