How to Have the Perfect Scary Movie Night
There’s nothing quite like a scary movie night to get you into the Halloween spirit. From supernatural thrillers and classic slasher films to psychological horror and spooky jump scares, there’s something for everyone. So set the scene, ready the snacks, and plan the perfect scary movie night with ease.
Choose your scary movie lineup
First things first: pick your movies. The perfect lineup depends on your audience and finding the right balance between fun and fear. If you’re looking for an intense evening of twists and turns, consider thrillers like Silence of the Lambs or Don’t Breathe. Looking for a classic spooky horror? Try Scream or Nightmare on Elm Street. For a lighter alternative, consider watching Halloween episodes of your favourite sitcoms to get you in the Halloween spirit without the scare.
Set the scene for maximum comfort
Dim the lights, close the curtains, and create set the scene for scary fun. Decorate your movie-watching space with cobwebs, plastic spiders, and skeletons to set the mood, but don’t forget comfort, too. Gather up fuzzy blankets, oversized pillows, and cushions so everyone has a comfortable place to hide during the scariest scenes.
Stock up on snacks
No movie night is complete without snacks. Stick with classics like popcorn and licorice or give your snack lineup a seasonal upgrade. Try apple slices with caramel dip and toppings like chocolate chips or crushed nuts; make your own mini pizzas; or load up a tray of nachos with cheese, olives, tomatoes, and jalapenos for an added kick.
Add distracting activities
Even the biggest horror movie fans need a break now and then. Add some entertainment to your movie night with trivia, charades, bingo, or other party games that can add some laughs into the mix. For an added perk, offer up Halloween candy as prizes.
With the right movies, delicious treats, and good company, your scary movie night is sure to be a scream. All that’s left to do is turn down the lights, press play, and try not to jump out of your seat!
