Giving Back Over the Holidays
The holiday season is a perfect time to spread joy and kindness to those in need. Giving back doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive—even small gestures can make a big impact on others. Looking for ways you can make a difference in the Langford community? Keep reading for our “giving back over the holidays” list:
Donate to the CFAX Santa’s Anonymous Tree of Wishes
This annual charity drive ensures gifts under the tree for Greater Victoria families in need. Volunteers are at Westshore Town Centre until December 20, 2024 (near Dollarama) where you can drop off toys and gift cards or, choose a “wish” off the tree and fulfill a specific gift request.
Volunteer your time
Local shelters and community organizations often need extra hands during the holidays to prepare and serve meals and provide additional services to those in need. Spending a few hours of your time is often invaluable and helps make a difference for others.
Donate toys or winter clothing
Hall closet full of coats that don’t fit? Have toys and games laying around that your kiddos don’t play with? Now is the perfect time to donate new and gently used items to toy drives, clothing drives, or donation bins to help ensure others are warm and cozy with gifts to open this holiday season.
Donate blood
The holidays often see a decline in blood donations, even though the need remains constant. Donating blood, if you’re eligible, can be a life-saving gift for those in need of medical care.
Make a financial contribution
If you want to give back but you’re just not sure how, a financial contribution can be a great (and fast) way to help those in need. Plus, non-profits and community organizations are often able to stretch a dollar to maximize the benefit and impact.
Sponsor a family
Many organizations offer adopt-a-family programs during the holidays. You can provide gifts, groceries, and other essentials for a family in need of additional support this time of year and help transform their holiday experience.
Participate in a community cleanup
Give back to the environment by organizing or joining a community cleanup. Picking up litter in your neighborhood, parks, or beaches helps keep your surroundings beautiful while protecting wildlife and fostering a sense of togetherness.
Giving back during the holidays is a powerful way to share the spirit of the season. Whether you’re donating items, volunteering your time, or supporting local causes, your actions can bring joy to others and create lasting memories. Challenge yourself to make kindness your priority—it’s a gift that truly keeps on giving.
